5 Staples to Maintain Wellness at Home
/Staying at home has pushed us to resume activities that we previously have not had time for, have more time spent with family and downtime—lots of downtime. With the increase of unstructured time, we may become susceptible to poor habits, such as snacking on junk food, overeating, drinking more than usual and even disruption of sleep patterns and overall wellness routines.
Since things are consistently inconsistent lately, here are 5 staples to maintain wellness at home:
Water – Start with drinking water as soon as you wake up in the morning. It will kick start your water intake for the day and push you to be consistent in your water consumption.
Sleep – Limit your tech use 1 hour before you decide to go to bed and try to do something that is calming, whether you read a book, listen to music or meditate. Allow yourself the downtime needed to get to sleep at an hour you deem reasonable.
Physical Activity – Identify ways that you can get moving during the day, whether you take a 15 minute walk outside or do some brief sit-stand movements to get your blood flowing.
Monitor what you eat and drink – Be aware of your food and drink intake, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Attune to how your body responds throughout the day when you are feeling exceptionally sluggish or fatigued. This could possibly be impacting your sleep as well.
Limit media, including the news and social media – Choose how you will take in any stressful information, especially regarding COVID-19. Choosing to only read headlines and pay close attention to your local municipality and state order may be a good structure to manage media intake.
