Self Care Sunday ... Delayed

Okay, so my intention was to do my Self Care Sunday routine on Sunday. I set a reminder on my Google Home and even set out my SCS materials, so I would be successful in making sure I went through my process. Welp, sleep took over and it didn’t happen. I went to bed very close to Aiden’s bedtime (which yesterday was 7p). So here I am waking up sometime in the 3 o’clock hour, rested and wondering what shall I do at this current time? I’m glad my self care was one of the first things that came to mind (after I took a glance at apartment search apps, of course).

Before I get into my routine, I need you all to know that I am a Sephora Sampler. Now let me clarify. I’m naming myself as a Sephora Sampler. I’m not paid to sample Sephora products. I have not signed up, been recruited nor been identified by Sephora or any other entity to sample their products. I personally enjoy getting free samples and trying new products.

Moving right along, I do this pretty much every time I cross paths with a Sephora. Typically I’m sampling makeup/cosmetic products, but this time I went for face masks. I was not disappointed. This is not an ad, rather it’s me explaining to you the importance in investing yourself. I took time out of my family’s Sunday Funday (post to come) to step into Sephora and pick something out for myself. Bonus: I got my sister to get herself a mask too!!

Walking in, I ask for a face mask. I have mud masks at home and have delved into sheet masks momentarily, but I wanted to try something new. The Sephora consultant brings me to Peter Thomas Roth’s 6 pack Mask Frenzy. Immediately, I’m excited. 6 different masks to choose from. I was further intrigued by 3 of the 6 masks and not wanting to be greedy, only asked for 3 samples (pumpkin enzyme mask, Irish moor mud, and something with stem cells).

This morning, I decided to use the pumpkin enzyme mask which is an exfoliating mask and surely my skin needed it. I drew my bath, although the water wouldn’t get as hot as I needed it. Placed 2 cups of Dr. Teale’s eucalyptus and spearmint epsom salt soak and grabbed my Me Time lemon zest sugar scrub. I lit my Champagne Toast candle from Bath and Body Works that was gifted to me and turned on the SelfishBabe podcast for a first time listen.

I’m naming all of these things to let you know that there’s plenty that you can do for self care. The reason why I do all of these on Sunday is so that I have a set time scheduled to allow myself time to decompress from the previous week and prep for the upcoming week. It’s self maintenance paired with self care, which allowed me to remove myself from any and allow stressors to focus only on my self care practice.

As a result, my skin feels great. Although I woke up super early, I was able to use the time to reconnect with podcasts. I’ve been meaning to for so long. Not to mention, I’ve affirmed how I’m going to approach the day and that is with intention.

Here’s a few tips on how to create your own self care routine:

  • Decide when you will do your routine. It doesn’t need to be lengthy. You can set a timer, but make sure to spell out some uninterrupted time for yourself.

  • What will you do in your routine? (Meditation, self maintenance, reading, etc.)

  • Set a reminder for your routine and don’t fall asleep before you can get to it

  • Indulge!
